At St. Michael’s we believe that effective learning is achieved in a secure, happy and orderly environment, where children can grow in self-esteem and develop their full potential as human beings. We set the highest standard of achievement for children and staff.
We aim to work together with parents and carers, to ensure that all children feel valued, safe, secure and happy. Happy children learn and thrive and develop the necessary confidence to cope with life’s challenges.
Our mission is to provide families with high quality childcare and education while embracing the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
We believe that a homely atmosphere is paramount, and we aim to provide a safe, caring environment where all children can feel happy and relaxed and develop to their full potential. The first five years of a child’s life are important informative years at St Michael’s we focus on the individual needs of the child.
St Michael’s nursery is committed to providing equal opportunities for all children and families. The diversity of all individuals and communities is respected and all families are welcomed and valued. No child or family is discriminated against.
At St Michael’s our aim is to provide a safe, secure and nurturing environment for the children to learn and develop at their own pace. We aim to provide home from home experience where we build positive relationships with all children and parents.
We will meet the needs of babies and children by ensuring parents wishes are followed, the key person will liaise with parents and develop individual care and development routines taking into account home care. All children will be encouraged to learn through play and explore through a wide range of sensory experiences.
Children will be supported to become active, inquisitive and independent learners by providing an educational plan based on individual needs and interest and providing a structured approach to play. Key persons will support the children and monitor their individual needs and interests.
We keep children safe by providing an environment where all children’s safety is paramount. We do this by maintaining staff to children ratios, carrying out regular risk assessments and ensuring staff are trained to meet health and safety standards of all children including safeguarding.
We aim to work in partnership with parents by listening and responding to their views and concerns and respecting them as their child’s first educators.
By sharing and discussing their child’s development, achievements and progress. We achieve this through daily feedback, sharing learning journeys, parent evenings and inviting parents as helpers or sharing skills or occupations.
By offering support and advice to families and signposting them to other professionals or services that may be able to offer them support.

Preparing for school is a serious matter, however, at St. Michael’s Nursery we believe it’s important to incorporate the fun aspects of learning. With thoroughly planned and structured activities that develop reading, writing and mathematical skills, the children are able to learn as they play. Our pre-school room covers all the seven areas of learning from communication to the world around us, readying our children for the next step into school.

Outdoor play and exploration are an essential part of learning and development, which has led us to create an outdoor area that provides the children with the greatest variety of experiences, challenges and controlled risks.
Our outdoor play equipment assists healthy and active lifestyles through climbing and cycling. Children can also engage with natural elements as well as having active fun in sand and water play.
A peaceful and comforting room for our babies, giving them space to crawl and explore sights and sounds which help them to stimulate their senses. Being in our baby room provides under 2s the perfect and ideal place to begin their nursery journey.
Our opening hours are 8am – 6pm, Monday to Friday.
We open all year round, closing for one week over the Christmas period and all bank holidays.
At St Michael’s Nursery we believe that every child deserves the best possible start in life, to help achieve this we deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) in a safe and stimulating environment. We hope to support the children in our care and help them reach their full potential. There are four themes incorporated in the EYFS and at St. Michael’s nurseries these are embedded into our everyday nursery practices. The themes are:
The Early Years Foundation Stage requires that parents and carers must be supplied with a short written summary of their child’s development in the three prime learning and development areas (see above) when the child is between 24-36 months.
We provide a safe, secure and productive environment for your child to develop and have FUN!
We received a 'Good' rating from OFSTED. Here's some of the things they had to say about us...
The quality of teaching is good because all staff have a secure knowledge of how children learn through play. They use this knowledge well, planning a broad and diverse programme of stimulating activities to extend and promote children’s learning and development.
Staff work well together and show high levels of enthusiasm, which in turn motivates children to learn. As a result, children engage well in their play and make good progress in their learning.
Staff work well together as a team and benefit from the strong leadership.
Children enter this warm and welcoming environment and settle well. This is because staff work with parents to understand the needs and interests of individual children so that they feel supported to learn and develop.
Good quality teaching and strong staff communication skills ensure that children make good progress in the nursery. A good range of activities and resources supports children in all areas of learning and development.
At St Michaels Nursery we annually celebrate the children’s graduation day in July. Our children are dressed in their gowns and put on a performance discussing things they have learnt throughout the year. They also sing (with sign language) and put on a mini French programme, which is highly appreciated by those who watch.
